| Bio: | First of all, I'm not insane. A little eccentric maybe. I have a cast of internal characters who represent different aspects of my personality. When I have something to think about, I often process it by writing a "conversation" between or among these internal characters, each representing a slightly different perspective. I find it very useful and often entertaining. But sometimes people think I'm weird. Cast of characters: TigerTulip: that's the central me. I'm a generally moderate, calm and grounded person. I'm a little reserved, and while I don't make friends too easily, when I care about somebody it goes really, really deep - even if I have a hard time showing it. I'm conservative with my money. I like camping, gardening, spending time with my family, going to the theatre, going out for lunch, traveling, throwing elaborate dinner parties, painting, potting and writing. TigerTulip does most of the writing around here. Tulip: also known as Tulip-the-Rampant-Cavegirl. Tulip is a cavegirl out of time. She has large grey eyes and waist length red curly hair, which she ties up with anything she can find that is really, really sparkly. She also likes to wear pyjamas with lots of sequins or anything shiney. I'm constantly having to take my tiara away from her. She spends most of her time playing, talking to strangers, eating candy, hunting rabbits and mice (using the modern technology of the vacuum cleaner), running, swimming, doing sommersaults and giving advice. She's brave to the heart and never flinches from the truth, or from doing what's right, no matter what. She's just as likely to give a hug or a whack up the side of the head with the fearsome club-made-from-a-mammoth's-thighbone. Tulip has been part of my life since I was about three years old, and has the ability to help me see past the stories I tell myself to the deep truths at the core of things. Although she is very self-conscious about her spelling, she occasionally writes entries in the journal. Gertrude: Gertrude is old - over 90, bone thin, with grey wrinkled skin that hangs on her bones like a shroud. She used to live in a cardboard box over on Brant Street, and represented a fear I used to have about being ancient and alone and a poverty-stricken bag lady; but she has since absconded with my retirement fund and moved to Italy. Apparently she really likes it there and is learning to speak Italian. FattyPatty: is my fat self that likes being fat! She likes donuts, pizza and especially chips. For her, being fat is all about being both safe and invisible. She hates my diet and does everything she can to undermine it. So far I'm winning this round. CB: is my corporate self. Self-important, arrogant, and all concerned about the next move: how much upward mobility, how much money. A workoholic who doesn't hesitate make all her staff push just as hard. Great at strategy, motivating people, with a super business mind. Terrible at friendship and gardening. She's spent a lot of my adult life driving the bus. I was incredibly disappointed to realize just how much I disliked her and have spent the last 6 months in a power struggle with her. I believe she has now been ousted, and accepted a new position in Alberta. I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about going to my new job without her, but somehow, I'll cope. Zim: is my inner novellist and poet. She loves to write of course, and is incredibly perceptive about people, places and moods and vibes of places. She is observant and empathic, and can get to the heart of people's motivations. Although very little gets by her, she generally keeps her observations to herself and is tolerant and sympathetic of human weakness in all its forms. She's practical and compassionate and an articulate speaker. Everybody likes her, but people who have issues they don't want to face sometimes find her a little scary. Chelsea loves the good life. Fine dining, fabulous clothes, expensive jewellery, amazing trips. She writes the restaurant reviews. | |
